Sri Lanka is home to five of the 625 recognized primate species of the world and is one of the primate hotspots that is most talked of amongst nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts all over the world.
Toque Macaque (Macaca sinica), Purple Faced Langur (Trachypithecus vetulus) and the Red Slender Loris (Loris tardigradus) are the three main primate species seen in Sri Lanka and all three are endemic to the country and are listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List and have also been listed amongst the world’s 25 most endangered primates.
